About
Our past few years in a nutshell
Who is Kinoli?
Kinoli is an established web development company with an emphasis in databases, flash, CMSs and even the mobile arena. We love interactivity and have a passion for pushing the development envelope. We seek challenges in what we do, and we're always learning more tricks of the trade. Our client base ranges from local Calgary companies to many interactive firms and companies from across Canada and the United States. We are always looking to work with new companies and to make friends along the way.
In 2005 Kinoli started with just a simple developer out of his condo in downtown Calgary. Since then Jesse has intentioned to keep things small, working with respected designers and developers of the trade when necessary. Of course, his main desire is to keep his clients happy. Kinoli is a full fledged Canadian corporation and is continually taking on new clients.

The World of Kinoli |
Trico Centre for Family Wellness, a community-operated fitness and wellness facility located in South Calgary, saw the importance of having a strong online presence when they contacted Kinoli. Their aging website was in need of a new design and an easy way to manage the content. Wordpress was their first option until Kinoli convinced them of the strengths of ExpressionEngine. After agreeing on a final design with Trico staff, Kinoli built out the website using ExpressionEngine, the client easily added all the content they wanted, they were able to create the menu the way they wanted their pages layed out, create all of the forms on the website through ExpressionEngine and can now fully manage their own website. Kinoli was happy to see them have success.

It was rebuilt using ExpressionEngine and leveraged some modern add-ons allowing Canoe staff to have full control of the content throughout the website. Kinoli even custom built an add-on allowing Canoe to add and maintain individual fund data with very little overhead and time. The website has been well received by the Canoe staff and similarily with their investors. Canoe is a great model of Canadian entrepreneurship and we wish them all the best with their success.

Working with the good folks at Wakamow Heights bed and breakfast, Kinoli was able to launch a new website. We handled all of the photography and development for the website. It uses ExpressionEngine so the client can update pretty much every aspect of the website. We even gave them the ability to change themes, including background images and colors, so they can update the look of the site depending on the season of the year. We are extremely happy with the website and hope it garners even greater success for Wakamow Heights.

Kinoli has been around for 5 years and our website was getting a little dusty. So it had come time to build a new one. We wanted a nice looking, simple website that uses our favorite CMS, ExpressionEngine, to manage it so we can make updates a lot more often. So welcome to our new website. We hope you like it. We will hopefully be able to spend a little more time updating our portfolio and latest news, now that it just got a lot easier for us.
Let us know what you think of our new site.

This was a pretty exciting website that we built with ExpressionEngine. We got to work with the design team at Juice Creative and found it a breeze to build it with ExpressionEngine. It was also our first time using an EE plugin called Structure. It is a great plugin that gives a hierarchical representation of your site pages in the back-end, making it simple for a client to find what piece of content they need to update. Needless-to-say, we'll be using Structure from now on with our clients. ExpressionEngine has a great following of developers and their are a lot of top quality plugins available for it because of that.
Check out the Westside Recreation Center.

We recently designed and developed a new iPhone application. Our friends at Istros Media Corporation in New York came up with this concept of building an app for AICP in the hopes of saving their client up to $50K in printing costs annually. The iPhone application essentially replaces a printed directory of all the registered AICP members around the world. Not only does it save them printing costs but it also allows them to update the content at any time they want, since it is being loaded from their web server. Any member with a directors reel also can link to that reel. We have some great prospective ideas for the app that will likely be added in the near future.
Take a look at the application.

Last year about this time, we began working on a project for Parks Canada which lasted a couple of months. It was a flash project that was an educational interactive presentation that taught about the history and uses of Caribou Fences. We had no idea what they were going into the project but learned that the Inuit people of Canada and Alaska built these massive fences to corral, trap and ultimately kill herds of caribou in order to feed and clothe their people. It was a wonderful project to work on and we developed it completely in AS3 using PureMVC as the framework. It was a perfect project to use that framework for.

One of our latest projects was working on a 50 inch touch screen for Arc Resources. A previous company had started the project but the client was unhappy with it and didn't really use it. We were able to give it a new login interface allowing visitors to use the touch screen to sign in rather than using the archaic pen and paper method. As you can see from the photos it is definitely an eye pleaser for most curious guests.
